• Brown Butter Blondies

I have always found blondies to be the most boring baked good ever to grace a potluck. If you’re having trouble remembering what blondies are, they are that tray of beige squares that some overworked mom dumped off at every bake sale or class birthday.  Sometimes she added some M&M’s or marshmallows (or sprinkles) in a desperate attempt to jazz up what was clearly a less-than-exemplary dessert. They are almost always either too cakey, or too crumbly, and consistently monotonous in flavor. But these… these brown butter blondies are not that.  Nay, my friends, the humble blondie has been elevated! It now exemplifies the beautiful chewy texture of it’s sister, the…

  • S’mores Cake – Happy Anniversary Crumb What May!

S’mores. There’s a reason why it’s a classic flavor. Just think about biting into a freshly toasted, warm, delicious s’more right now. It’s crunchy, melty, and gooey; sweet, salty, bitter, and smokey all at once. It’s the perfect dessert in a tiny little square. Good with children, will easily travel. So when some friends and I booked a weekend cabin in Wisconsin for The Hubby’s birthday, I thought what better-flavored cake for a cabin in the woods then a s’mores cake? Long story short involving drinking, spaghetti and meatballs, a complicated board game, way too much corn on the cob, and some other things I won’t mention here… cake didn’t…

  • Lemon Meringue Tarts

Introducing the fastest photoshoot ever! Please don’t judge, I have two jobs now (I am a real-life, paid-for-it baker now!) and almost no time. It’s not that I stopped baking at home, I just never have time to photograph the results much less type something up. Well, these little lemon meringue tarts came out so adorable that at the last second before carting them out the door I threw the baking sheet next to the window, and shot off a few pics. No filter for the window light, no cardstock for light bouncing or blocking, didn’t even use a tripod. Needless to say the majority of the photos were garbage,…

  • Chocolate Apricot Tarts – Bitter Sweet Delights

Hello Summer! 2018 has been a whirlwind of a year for me so far. I left my 9-5 to follow my dream of a culinary career, pursued my real estate license, traveled to Amsterdam, and moved into a new apartment. I’m very tired. I’m hoping that now that we’re settled into our new home that I will have more time to start baking and writing again. And so I present to you my first bake in my new kitchen: Chocolate Apricot Tarts! I first saw these little lovelies by Rebecca of Figs and Pigs when looking for handheld desserts for a Halloween party. How perfect these would have looked on my…

  • Bacon Apple Pie for Pi day

What better pie to feature for pie day than The Pie That Started It All! Bacon Apple Pie. This pie was my first foray into making my own recipe, or rather not following someone else’s recipe as I didn’t pay attention to what I was doing and actually write it down for quite a while, and it has turned into a household staple. It is a frequently requested pie for Friendsgiving celebrations and was even the dessert at my wedding. It is sweet and savory, tart and salty all at once. Best yet, it’s super easy to make. That being said, it’s not for everyone. Vegetarians for one, and the unadventurous…
